JACKSONPORT STATE PARK PROGRAM SCHEDULE AUGUST 5 – 11, 2016

 

The beach is open and safe for swimming! Just be sure to wear good shoes and bring some shade! That sand is HOT!

Museum Open Year Round
JACKSONPORT COURTHOUSE MUSEUM
Have you visited your museum today? Tuesday – Saturday, 8:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. The museum is open to the public year-round, and is free to all visitors.
Closed Mondays except Holiday Mondays, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.

Friday, August 5
6:30 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.: BIRDS OF PREY
Explore the super powers of birds of prey and learn how they survive in the wild and then take a walk to the end of the swim beach to see if there are any around.
Meeting place: Campground – Admission: Free

Saturday, August 6
2:30 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.: BACKYARD BIRD HIKE
Have you ever wondered what birds are located in your backyard? Join a park interpreter to discover which birds can be found in Arkansas’s backyard. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a bottle of water. Feel free to bring some binoculars. Bird guides will be provided.
Meeting place: Tunstall Riverwalk – Admission: Free

6:30 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.: WHITE RIVER MONSTER HIKE
Join a park interpreter for a hike along the beach and learn about the history of White River Monster sightings while watching for items that may have been mistaken for this mythical monster in the past. Don’t forget to bring a camera and binoculars! If we do find him, it’s always good to have proof. Meeting place: Campground – Meet at White Park Van – Admission: Free

Sunday, August 7
2:30 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.: PEARLING & SHELLING ON THE WHITE RIVER
Discover the fascinating world of White River pearling as the residents of Jacksonport experienced it at the turn of the 20th century. See the equipment used by divers and learn about the multitude of uses for the mussel shells. Most especially, learn about the most coveted prize of all – the perfect fresh water pearl.

Tuesday, August 9
10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.: HEALTHY HIKE TUESDAY
Join the fun every Tuesday at Jacksonport State Park! Each hike begins at the Tunstall Riverwalk Trailhead. Just look for the white state park van. Park interpreters will be ready with a nature-inspired, healthy theme for each hike. Birding, nature, or wildlife hikes are available. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring water with you. Wear a hat and bring a bird I.D. book, if you have one.

Thursday, August 11
10 a.m. – 11 a.m.: DISCOVERY HOUR AT JACKSONPORT
Join the fun every Thursday at Jacksonport State Park! Park interpreters will help you explore and understand the history and nature of Jacksonport State Park through action-packed games, crafts, storytelling, artifacts, and the occasional live animal.
