A Day That Has Lived in Infamy – America Remembers!! (posted by Ginger Smith)

It was a Sunday morning with a few clouds in the sky, but generally a beautiful Hawaiian morning on the island of Oahu.  Some were attending religious services while others were going about their routines.  It was an ordinary start to a routine day.
Until 7:55 a.m.
The first Japanese dive bomber began a steep descent from the cloud cover and began the attack that would leave the U.S. Pacific Fleet in rubble sunk a the bottom of the harbor.  The attack cost America the lives of 2,400 of our finest and wounded another 1,800.  It was a surprise attack with a lopsided victory for Japan.
Today, we mourn the lives of the Americans who died at Pearl Harbor on this day 65 years ago, which President Franklin Roosevelt said would “live in infamy.”
Across the ocean at the bottom of Pearl Harbor, beads of oil have been slowing escaping our ships for 65 years and they continue today.  Each bead rising to the top is a reminder of each drop of blood that was shed on that fateful day and through World War II.
Our freedom is never free.  A great sacrifice was paid by “The Greatest Generation” during that war.
Today, the Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center honors Pearl Harbor Day and a battle that was fought much closer to home on December 7, 1867 at the Battle of Prairie Grove during the Civil War.  We pause to remember the sacrifice of the men and women who have served, and are serving today, this country.
May God bless our nation.
