The Gallery Reception for the Batesville Area Arts Council’s current exhibition, Internal Extersions, will be held on Friday, March 6 from 5pm-7pm. The show features work by Little Rock artist, Jennifer Rospert, who will give a brief artist talk that evening at 6pm.

Jennifer Rospert is currently Assistant Professor of Drawing at the University of Central Arkansas. She received her MFA in Painting from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2003, and did Post-Baccalaureate work at the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2000. She also earned a BA degree in Psychology from the Ohio State University in 1997. She worked as adjunct faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University and University of Richmond before coming to Arkansas. Rospert’s Work has been exhibited in national group shows and juried exhibitions in Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, Washington D.C., Georgia, Louisiana, Arkansas, Colorado, and Missouri. She has also exhibited internationally in Budapest, Hungary.

On her work, Rospert notes, “Drawing is an act of immediacy, where the mark is in metronomic alignment to conscious and abstract thoughts and thought patterns. A quick/gestural mark is an analogic illustration of an internal (brief) moment.  The value (for me) – in drawing, making, marking – is in this act/process of negotiating (internal) impulses with the physical act of handling the idiosyncratic elements a particular surface. Labor intensive it is not; it is, perhaps, ritualistic, bordering on obsession.  The inherent repetitiveness of it all requires regular destruction of an image or idea or materials— a ‘rubbing out’ or deletion of a moment.   What remains is a result of this, what I consider, a careful balance.” You can learn more about her work at www.jenniferrospert.com.
