Mountain View & Ozark Folk Center Memorial Day Holiday’s Great Celebration

Looking for the perfect vacation for two or twenty?  I can help you.  There are many Arkansas vacations, of which I have enjoyed many over the years, and I am still discovering new things in the same places.

Mountain View is known for its Folk Festival, Bean Fest/Outhouse Race, Bluegrass Festivals, music on the square on the weekends,  Off the Beaten Path Tour,  The Ozark Folk Center with its classes, workshops, concerts, and good food, and the list goes on and on.  You can’t go wrong with the Blanchard Springs Cavern for an exciting trek in the cool, or swing out and up and over on Loco  Ropes!

Go fish at Anglers and Jack’s and eat catfish while you are there!  The camping facilities are numerous and top-notch.  You may check out their web page or Facebook page for any of the above named attractions.  Our web site keeps you up to date on all of the goings-on in this neck of the woods and we are so proud to welcome everyone to vacation in our North Central part of Arkansas.

I had occasion to attend the Mountain View/Stone County Memorial Service this past Saturday and I was in awe of the totally “Proud to be an American” service honoring those whom were lost in our battle to keep America free.

There were two very deserving service gentlemen honored, an informative presentation by the Veterans Service administrator, a veteran reverently played guitar and sang our favorite Freedom Song, “Proud to be an American,” written by Lee Greenwood.  There were flags and bagpipes and hands crossed over hearts and tears and smiles as the ceremony honored those who didn’t return to live the free life for which they fought.  My heart was so full of being an American, quite a touching ceremony.  And a really neat thing happened to me.  My friend and I were lazy and didn’t get our chairs out for the ceremony around the courthouse, so we sat on the rock wall, and being a wimp, I was complaining about the pointed rocks, when a nice gentleman who served in the Air Force in the 1950’s overheard me and insisted I sit in his place, on a nice flat rock.  I felt like a wimp, but I took him up  on it.  Salute!  This veteran is still a gentleman and it was a nice touch to end our Memorial Service, me being honored by this gentleman!

We spent the afternoon eating lunch, met a dulcimer player from Canada in a local cafe and chatted her up (who was on tour and stopped there for the holiday and later bought a dulcimer at their dulcimer shop), then indulged in black walnut ice cream so good make you slap your knee, and sat on rock walls and our lawn chairs enjoying the many groups of musicians.   We shopped in the numerous stores around the square before heading out to the Ozark Folk Center to attend the concert.  We joined a huge crowd at the concert, and were entertained by a musician singer/song writer of note.

When you leave Mountain View, you know, you always just wanting to go back.  Time and again.  And again.

See you there! Ginger
