Ozark Folk Center offers Cooking Classes Oct. 10

The Ozark Folk Center State Park offers two cooking classes Dutch oven and Farmstead Cheesemaking Saturday, Oct. 10.

Blue Grass Festival - Ozark GatewayDutch oven class you will cook over a fire using both traditional and modern recipes. “You’ll get lots of hands-on experience cooking pork roast; best-ever biscuits; mixed sweet, red and white potatoes with onions and pepper; several different types of cobbler; and another vegetable dish or two”, says Instructor Josh Epperson, Assistant Superintendent.

Learn to make farmer’s cheese, kefir, cottage cheese and yogurt in the Farmstead Cheesemaking class. “In this class you’ll learn how I make quick and basic cheeses in my modern farm kitchen,” said Jeanette Larson, Ozark Folk Center Craft Director. “We’ll use herbs from the garden; fresh goat’s milk and store bought cow’s milk to make yummy grilling, slicing and fried cheese.”

Each class cost is $30 per participant or $50 per couple, this fee is nonrefundable. The class fee covers copies of all recipes and a lunch of the foods you’ve cooked. Additionally, every student will get a 10 percent off discount coupon to purchase their own Dutch oven or cheesemaking book in the Ozark Folk Center’s Homespun Gift Shop.

Classes will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Meet your instructor and pick up your packet in the Administration Building lobby. The park address is 1032 Park Avenue, Mountain View, Arkansas. You’ll be cooking outside over fire or with boiling liquid, so wear appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. Classes finish about 2:00 p.m., leaving you time to enjoy a visit to the rest of the park.
